Welcome to all visitors of the Saint James website.

Many people comment that they know of St. James as one of those two little “white country churches” that they pass on Mays Landing Road on their way to the shore; or where they park to attend a ballgame at the field next door.  We also have visitors who have stopped at the cemetery and prayer garden for some quiet time.

St. James is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is a Reconciling in Christ Church and is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2023.

We may be considered a "small" congregation, but that does not mean we cannot show God's love in a big way. If you visit us you will come to see we are like a large family who love each other - warts and all. We work at being God's hands and feet in our community and helping others to know God's love through our actions, from the littlest of us to the oldest of us.

We invite you to attend our services and get to know us better. Join some of our members for brunch after worship. We always have a good time.

Please join us as we grow together in faith and fellowship.  We invite you to become involved in activities that serve and support our community on the local, regional and global levels.

What People have to say about St. James

From the day we started attending St. James the congregation as a whole has been so welcoming. This was a relief considering the church we used to attend had closed down and we were in search of a new one. The people of St. James, especially Pastor Pam, are so patient and understanding when it comes to children; our youngest is two. We all understand that children can be loud at times or can’t sit still depending on the age. Pastor Pam will involve them in her sermon or just ignore what is happening, which is amazing, if you ask me. Luther (2 yrs.) told me his favorite part of church is when, “the people give me pound (a fist bump).” I love how we involve the children as much as we can allowing them to enjoy church. Sabrina (7 yrs.) loves when, “they let me, Sage, and Ivory (her sisters) ring the bell.” This allows her to be a part of spreading the word of the lord in a way that she can. Not only do we allow the children to make it known that church is starting but we also involve them with holiday preparation too. Waylon (3 yrs.) told me “I like church because the people like me, and they even let me decorate the Christmas tree!”

We love all the socials that are coordinated, allowing us, and those who don’t regularly attend church each week, to better get to know each other. Sage (6 yrs.) has mentioned, “I love wearing my pretty dresses to church and we get to go to fun nights like bingo and have ice cream sundaes! We even had pancakes in the morning with everyone from church too!” Having Sunday school for the children allows them to learn about the Lord at a more welcoming level, making them eager to go. Ivory (5 yrs.) was so enthusiastic when telling us, “I love going to Sunday School, it is so much fun. There is even a snack time!”

My husband and I enjoy attending St. James every Sunday with our children who get excited to get up and get dressed in what we call their church clothes. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to feel the warm welcome that we have felt since the first time we walked in.

Before I first found out about St. James Lutheran Church
I was at a very tumultuous point in my walk with Jesus.
After being rejected by my previous church of over 10 years
after coming out as a trans woman, I was lost, confused,
and thought I would never find a Christian community
that would fully accept me for who I truly am.
That is, until I found St. James.
Ever since talking to Pastor Werner and first attending service over Zoom
I can proudly call St. James my new home and sanctuary!
My fellow congregants have fully accepted me with open arms,
filled with compassion and fueled by our shared love of and devotion to God.
My hope is that other LGBT people can feel that same love
by coming to worship here at St. James as they truly are as well!

Quinn Cowan (she/her) (a member of St. James)

When we were searching for a church to call home, we hoped to find a warm, welcoming community where we could grow spiritually. On our first visit to St. James, the congregation greeted us with open arms. In just the first few weeks, we felt like we had become part of the St. James family. Pastor Pam went out of her way to get to know us and offer support. Her compassion and care made a huge impression. Members invited us to get involved, and there was an authentic spirit of love and service.

At St. James, there are many ways to connect and serve. We are overjoyed to have
found our church home at St. James. If you're looking for a place to grow in faith
and be surrounded by caring believers, we highly recommend visiting.
You'll be warmly embraced just as we were!

Thanks,
Matt and Bryan
(Matt DiDonato and Bryan Stites recently joined St. James.)

A feeling of belonging and cared about is what is needed in our lives
and in our churches, and what I have found at St. James.
Through the people here I have experienced God’s love.
Sharon Hitchens (a member of St. James)

It’s a tough world out there and
having a sense of belonging to a community in Christ
is calming and can change your life
if you’re open to Gods never ending love.
This is what I love about St. James.
Peace and Love, Sally Costa (a member of St. James)

They have seen me through some very hard times
and also shared some very happy times with me.
They are a caring, loving, compassionate,
friendly, welcoming, sharing family.
I know I will continue to "belong" there for years to come.
Rose Jones (a member of St. James)

St. James is a very supportive and loving congregation.
I continue on my faith journey everyday and know that I am not alone.
Dolores Fiori (a member of St. James)
